Secular Humanism in all its guises has set an ungodly example which Christians have diligently and eagerly followed either ignorantly or deliberately.
This single sentence pretty much sums up the findings of 45 years of philosophical, historical and cultural studies into the nature of man, the nature of culture and politics, and biblical doctrines including the universally misunderstood doctrine of the Church, and the much maligned and nearly universally hated or reinterpreted doctrine of Christian Separation from the World.
Today people do not know, because they have been taught otherwise, or because they lack the ability for or the impulse to critical thinking (both results of the lullaby of Secular Humanism!).
I can hear the voices now, forming a chorus singing the refrain “but it has always been like this.” I agree. But the single most important key to understanding Western history lies in discovering the degrees to which the above statement has been true, and the extent to which it was true within a given era or culture. If you are able to speak to these issues, you will know a very great deal about the subject of the discussion.
And why have so many of those calling themselves Christians followed the ungodly teachings and examples of Secular Humanism? Aside from the Biblical dictum that “there is pleasure in sin, but only for a season," Leo Tolstoy provided another take on such things in the snippet “ . . . those who are deceived find pleasure in the deception . . .” (War and Peace, vol. 3, book 6, ch.9.)
If you call yourself a Christian, would it not be a good idea to get to the bottom of these issues Biblically, particularly regarding our own age and culture? Or is it just easier to “find pleasure in the deception?"
