We probably are at the end of our economic rope is that we will probably never pay off the national debt. We are going to have to seek a new economic paradigm, a whole new economic methodology. Because the debt cannot be paid off unless what causes it is mitigated or eliminated, the longer we want to take to pay off the debt, the lower the continued outlay on the things that cause the debt must be. If we want to pay the debt off at a billion dollars per year, it will take twenty thousand years to do so only if we add nothing to the debt in the meantime. To add only a million dollars per year to the debt while paying 1 billion dollars a year will extend the payoff period by over twenty years. This whole example ignores such nasty items such as interest rates. America, in its current size and shape, cannot possibly exist under such extreme conditions.
What exacerbates the problem is the fact that we are still trying increase the outlays of the welfare state with free everything under the sun. Self-discipline, moral economic and political has absolutely and completely disappeared in our relativistic culture. And when there is no discipline, ruin is right behind.
Because self-discipline is a spiritual and moral matter, the problems must first be recognized as spiritual, moral problems. Then, and only then, can we begin to rebuild our society.
