The notion of an “accountability partner,” is a very far cry from New Testament teaching. “The term is a neologism and has gained relatively wide use since the 1990s. . . It became popular in the 1990s and spread in Christian circles to anti-pornography concerns, where there is even software available for the problem. A Biblical Concept? A Christian practice?
