His eye is on the sparrow

“Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Matt 10:29-30)
As with most birds, the sparrow has a song that he sings as well as an ability to sing simple instinctive communications to other birds. Even though small, they are strong and aggressive. God made them for His pleasure – and for ours. God gave it the instincts so that it knows how to build a nest, find food, have a keen eye for an enemy, and everything else that it needs to live on earth. The song it sings was in the mind of God before the bird was created and God placed that song into the sparrow’s mind. When it sings its song, it is bringing glory to its Creator, and I’m sure that God is smiling when He hears the song.
And then the sparrow lives and then dies. It may grow old and weak and simply fall from the sky.
And the verse above says that it does not fall to the ‘ground apart from your Father.’ Some think this means that the Father is simply aware of the falling bird. Some think it means that the Father is watching. My opinion is that the Father actually accompanies the falling bird to the earth. He is with it to its last. After all, it is one of His creations. He does not just create and abandon it to its instincts. He was with the bird as it hopped; as it searched for worms; as it sang; and as it flew and fulfilled the purpose that God had for that little one. He was with that little sparrow throughout its life.
No – you say. Such detail is logistically impossible – for every created being on earth. You may think that God need not be that concerned about such details. So God gives us another clue about details. The hairs of your head are numbered. That does not mean that He has counted and knows how many hairs you have. It means that every one of your hairs has a unique number. Some of you men are probably down to #445 and #723…couldn’t resist, sorry. What intimate detail He thinks about.
And speaking of…”Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me…” (Psa 23:4) As I am passing from this life to the next, I am not alone. Just as He is with the sparrow, He (not an angel or someone else) is with me as I am failing. As I exhale my last breath, He accompanies me into heaven. No fear. No lingering in some dark intermediate state. He does it for the sparrow and He will do it for me.
So if our Father is involved in what we might consider small details, how much more He is involved in EVERY aspect of our life. In God’s mind, there are no trivial things about His created beings. “…for He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Heb 13:5) There is not a moment when He is not with you – and aware of all of the details of your life. He is near. Pray to your Father.
If you are one of God’s children, then you have every right to call Him, Father – or Papa. (Gal 4:6-7) And if you don’t have the certainty that He is your Father – if you do not have the certainty that He will be there for you, then please…consider
You can become a son, a child, by believing that Jesus Christ came to this earth to die on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins. “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)
