He is the Potter

“Yet, O Lord, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.” Isa 64:8
The following is an old Christian hymn that I used to sing in church. As you read it, you will see that it is actually a prayer!
Have Thine own way Lord
Have Thine own way
Thou art the potter I am the clay
Mold me and make me after Thy will
While I am waiting yielded and still
Have Thine own way Lord
Have Thine own way
Search me and try me Master today
Whiter than snow Lord wash me just now
As in Thy presence humbly I bow
“We are His; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Psalm 100:3
We belong to Him. He is the One who is molding us into what He wishes us to be. The potter fashions the clay as he wishes. The clay should not argue or resist. Yielded and still, the clay simply waits for the work of the master’s hand.
Sometimes we can see what the potter is doing – and sometimes we like it. Other times we cannot imagine that what is going on in our life is part of His plan for me. We do not like it. We resist. We want to shape things and mold events to our liking. His gentle voice reminds us to trust him, to be still.
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psa 46:10
Pray to your heavenly Father, “I belong to you. I am bound to you. Lead me where you will; mold me into whatever you wish; count me as one of the trusting ones; feed me from your pastures; and Lord, I bow my head and open my heart and offer myself to you.”
Keep in mind my friend that He is molding something into someone that He wants. He wants to pour His very life into you. Don’t resist. Let him have his way and be transformed into what His plans are for you. Read the hymn again as a prayer to your King.
“…Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand …” Jer 18:6 NKJV
And what does our Lord have in mind for you as your Potter?
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jer 29:11
