Christians and abortion

A friend of mine told me the other day that the Bible provided for abortion (this is categorically false). I wondered if he supposed this to be abortion on demand, or under some other condition. So far as the American constitution is concerned, would this fall within the category of "God-given," and "unalienable" rights?
