The Lord used Samson. His faith is recorded in Hebrews 11 – the chapter of great men & women of the faith. The Holy Spirit came upon and used him mightily on occasions. Further, he ruled in Israel for 20 years as a judge. In his later years, he drifts away from God.
Judges 16 continues the story of Samson’s life and he is walking away from the Lord. He went gradually. I’m afraid that’s how it starts…believers seldom plunge into sin. They gradually drift into disinterest and then into disobedience. They seek some path of their own and disregard the Holy Spirit’s work in their life. The Bible refers to it as ‘dull of hearing.’
Somewhere along the way – in his wandering away from God – Samson’s God given super strength left him. He thought that he still had it, but it was gone. Worse still was the fact that he did not know that the Lord had left him and reduced his strength to the common man’s.
When disobedience comes, suffering will follow. And soon, God removes His power from your life. God’s presence wanes indiscernable. One feels as though he has lost touch with God. An uncomfortable feeling of distance oocurs between one and God. But never forget, he never forsakes His children. He wants to use your uncomfortable feeling to draw you back to Him. He wants your company. He delights in fellowship with his children. He wants to walk with you far more than you will ever imagine.
How about you? Do you have trouble discerning and sensing the Lord’s presence with you? Have you lost that strong and sweet, tender and conscious presence with the Lord? This is the greatest treasure of man – experiencing the life of God – your life with God.
Psalms 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Get back on the path. That light and lamp is the presence of God moving through the verses of Scripture.
God’s primary instrument that the Holy Spirit uses is the Word of God. We must keep ourselves in His word and then lift your eyes to meditate on what the Spirit has to say to you concerning the passage just read. Walking with Christ is not hard or unknowable. It is something that is not dependent on our education. Conscious fellowship with the Lord comes in obedience to His leading. God reveals Himself primarily through Scripture and through the voice of God’s Spirit. Get back on the path.
Remember that Jesus was and is and will always be Immanuel – God with us…not just a nice thought, but truly a blessed truth…Jesus is with us. Confess any sins, pray for Him to restore to you the joy of your salvation and the confidence of His presence.
The primary instrument that the Holy Spirit uses is God’s Word. Further, the Spirit helps our weaknesses (infirmities) where we are floundering. The Spirit not only instructs but He also hears and recovers us! Seek the Lord!
