Through Deep Waters

Our Lord Jesus knows about your pain. But more important, He feels your pain. God allows unexplained sorrows for each of us. He is suffering when you are suffering. He stoops to put His hand on your bent shoulders. He hurts when He feels your body shaking in your grief. He is ever present. He may not wipe away your tears, but He weeps and sobs with you in your sorrow. He is there with you. When Jesus was at the tomb of Lazarus, He wept so hard that His body was shaking. He had suffered a loss of a dear friend.
“He took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee and began to be grieved and distressed. Jesus said,” My soul is deeply grieved to the point of death: remain here and keep watch with me.”
(Matt 26:37-38) Jesus asked his disciples to be with Him. He did not ask for conversation or counsel or cheer from his friends. “Keep watch with me.” So when you are in deep sorrow, ask a friend to be with you. Just to be there. Don’t be by yourself. God has given us one another to encourage and to go through trials together. And if you are that friend that one calls you to sit with them, don’t feel you have to explain why God is allowing this trial. Just keep watch with them.
And another thing…in your grief, don’t shy away from complaining to your Lord.
I cried out to God with my voice
To God with my voice;
And He gave ear to me.
2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
My hand was stretched out in the night without ceasing;
My soul refused to be comforted.
3 I remembered God, and was troubled;
I complained, and my spirit was overwhelmed. Selah
4 You hold my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.” Psa 77:1-4
“I pour out my complaint before Him;
I declare before Him my trouble.” Psa 142:2
Do my prayers really express my heart to God? Do we pray words that we think God wants to hear? Does God see a difference between my words and my heart? God is never threatened with the intensity of your complaint. He is your Father, your Abba, your Friend!
